An Evening With David Sedaris

OK so I have to admit that I didn't know of David Sedaris when Dru told me she had panic bought a ticket for me to see him at the Asheville Civic Center. But when they told me about him and his sense of humor there was no doubt I would enjoy the show. I did have time to get one of his books and get acquainted with his writing and comedy style but I chose to just wait and to be surprised and possibly shocked by his warped view of the world. Wait I take that back the world is warped already he just points it out in his unique, some would say offensive, but I say hysterical way.
Before the Show we went to Zambra's to enjoy some pre show drinks and a new dining experience for me, Spanish tapas. Which translates to delicious but over priced appetizers. Then we headed on to the show, settled in and enjoyed an hour or so of animal stories and side splitting encounters and observations. I now have some new phrases in my life such as "crop dusting" "I've been hating since before you were born" and "love mouse" I wish I could remember more.
I'm not a person who really likes to dwell on or talk about tragic things, I can and have laughed at funerals. This is what makes him so great he can say something tragic and for just a second you think, oh how terrible *gasp* then instantly he says something that makes you double over with laughter.
Also ironically his fan base is full of people who are prime for mocking because of their freakish looks and personalities. Including a woman with some of the worst cleavage I have ever seen, who I'm pretty sure dropped things on purpose so she would have a reason to bend over. Not to mention, way too much leather and fringe for such a warm April evening.
After the show we stood in the line sweating from all the people trying to cram in to keep from going to the back of the line. Got autographs and when asked their ages both of my teenage sisters received condoms because "it was time to start having anal sex" this of course made the entire line explode in laughter.
It was a great show and I can't wait to start reading his books. Oddly enough after seeing the covers to a few of his books I can't believe how many times I have held one in my hand and almost bought it but because I'm not a big reader typically and I didn't know who he was I didn't. No worries of that happening again.
Thanks for a great evening David Sedaris.

Easter Weekend

Easter Weekend was spent in WV. Raven some how managed to get the weekend off from the theater so he was also able to make it in and take a trip to Beckley to catch up with his family. While I spent my time at good old Windswept Farm with my fam. It was a pretty relaxing weekend. We ate too much, colored Easter eggs, then smashed them, had fun with bubbles and took a walk to grandma's grave. These are just a few pics from the weekend I took with my funsy camera. If you would like to see pics taken with the good camera check out my flickr.

Latest Obsession
These are some of my latest artsy crafty experiments. I used stencils and bleach to create designs on shirts I picked up from Goodwill. I have a few of them for sale now on Etsy with more to come. Also I'm working on making my own stencils for printing on T-Shirts.
