Heros Con

Last weekend Raven and I headed to the big city of Charlotte NC for Heros Con, meeting up with some fellow comic nerds from WV. We didn't get a table for this one because they were a bit pricey. We do pretty OK with button sales at such events, but it would take a butt load of buttons just to break even. So we just went to have fun, mission accomplished. Now it's true that as comics go I'm a bit of a newbie so honestly I'm not too impressed with the "rock stars" of the comic world that might attend such events. Don't get me wrong I love comic movies, I'm just not that interested in main stream comics. I ended up with a couple of comic selections that I loved.
First was a couple of Owly books written by Andy Runton. This series is really intended for children or just anyone that has an affection for all things adorable. Owly is a gentle baby Owl who has trouble flying and making friends because most of the small forest creatures fear him by reputation.

The other comic I purchased was making it's debut at Heroscon. This is a graphic novel called Red Moon by David McAdoo. I was very hesitant to take a chance on this. Like so many others I was traumatized at a young age by Where the Red Fern Grows. From then on I really don't watch or read stories, especially dramatic stories that feature two lovable dogs. For some reason people seem to think the only good dog story is one where the dog dies. Old Yeller, Marly and Me, Turner and Hooch...the list goes on. So I really spent some time thinking about whether or not I wanted to read an apocalyptic tail that evolves around two dogs. But I really loved this story. The art was fantastic; I could definitely see these characters in a movie. I recommend this to anyone who loves animals, and hey who doesn't love animals. Check out their blog

Well I ate to much, I spent too much, I met some great people, got some good pictures, yeah that's my idea of a super weekend.
