Movie Reviews

I decided to go ahead and give this one a five star even though I was in between 4 and 5. This was a wonderful movie, the story, the visuals, it was emotional without being so sad that I can't bare to watch it again. I really did love it but at the same time there is something keeping me from putting this on my list of all time, best movies ever made. I would like to read the book now to see how well it was adapted. It is a movie that sticks with you so to me that is a mark of a great movie, when it constantly creeps into your thoughts. There is one sequence in particular that is really tough to get out of my head.

For some reason I'm finding it tough to talk about this movie without giving too much away. Personally I hate reading a movie review to determine whether or not I will go watch it only to have the plot spoiled by the reviewer. So I'm just going to say I love it and highly recommend this one. I realize this is pretty generic and vague, but that's just all I have right now. It's great for anyone who likes a movie that doesn't go exactly where you expect.

Team Conan

OK so there is way more important issues going on that are a bit more news worthy than the Tonight Show losing the spot it has had since dinosaurs roamed the earth. But I'm not the type of person who really likes to talk about serious or tragic stories. So I just want to say shame on NBC. Oh what having Jay Leno on every weeknight at 10 not workin' out for you. Wow didn't see that coming. Local news affiliates are actually complaining that Jay is hurting their ratings because people change the channel when he comes on. The only funny thing he has going for him is asking stupid people obvious questions and funny headlines that are sent in by viewers.
Though I will be very sad if Conan goes to another network, unless it's abc or the WB I'll be out of luck, that's all I get besides NBC. At least he is making a stand and calling NBC out for what they are trying to do to the Tonight Show.

Movie Reviews

(out of five)I enjoyed this little film, it was about what I expected. Alec Baldwin was perfect as a character you both love and hate. Meryl Streep was brilliant as always, and Steve Martin was great. His character wasn't particularly comical, a little shy and sweet, but he still got a couple scenes where he shows that he hasn't lost the ability to make us laugh. With movies like Pink Panther I was beginning to wonder (not really fair because I didn't see them, I just didn't need to)
The story was good, predictable but still enjoyable. It delivered some great laughs. Overall I really enjoyed it.

Now it has been a little while since I have watched this movie; one of the benefits of a boyfriend who works in a theater is getting to go to the manager screenings of movies before they are released. Unfortunately these movies are really late and I was so very tired when I watched this one so I wouldn't mind catching it again. I did really love this version of Sherlock but then it helps that I'm a big Robert Downey Jr. Fan. I though he was excellent as the classic detective who never lets a thing slip past his keen observation and powerful intellect. Though I don't remember Sherlock being such a badass physically, I thought is was a nice touch that he could analyze and predict fights with almost any opponent. I also loved Jude Law as Watson.
I thought the story was clever and it had a few good twists. I loved this movie and look forward to watching it again.

Happy New Year
January 2010 has been pretty uneventful so far. I spent the New Years watching Dick Clark while Raven had to work. I don't really make resolutions because I rarely ever keep them There are some changes I'd like to make this year. For start I plan on applying to grad school which I have to do right away because most schools have a January 15th deadline. I have a few schools in mind but I don't know if I can get in or even afford them for that matter. Even if I get loans I'm not sure I want to go 80,000 in the hole for another degree that could prove to be as worthless as the one I have now.
If things don't work out for grad school I want to find a better job even if that means moving again, and NO MORE RETAIL. I resolve to never spend another Christmas season in a mall, but jobs in Asheville are just as hard to come by as they were in WV so I guess I should be lucky I have anything at all. I also would like to try and update my blog a little more so here are some pics taken with my funsy camera:

Stuff in Sink
It's extremely cold outside so when I take the urge to do a little photography I just have to use what I have in my apartment. I had some fun putting various items in the sink and letting water run over them. I particularly like this robot, the water makes it look like he is crying.
