The Walking Dead
We are coming to the end of season two and for those who have been watching you know the last couple of episodes have been very exciting and a little surprising. I am also a fan of the comic and I have been OK with the changes; it keeps things interesting. What I am not OK with are some of the inconsistencies in the writing of zombies. I just keep hearing the MST 3K theme song playing in my head "repeat to yourself it's just a show I should really just relax." Come on though, a zombie who is weak enough to get his feet stuck in mud suddenly is strong enough to rip Dale's stomach open with his bare hands. What was the zombie doing just hanging out by a fresh kill, did he step into the woods to relieve himself, is he the first zombie smart enough to know how to set a trap, doubtful. Then on to Shane's plan to lead rick into the woods alone and end up in a field right in front of the farm. I guess he was going to come up with a story about how Rick pulled a gun on him first, self defense or whatever. Though not many people bought the Otis story, even though it was way more probable than Rick turning on Shane, so I'm thinking it would be tough sell.
The dead to zombie turnover rate is also an inconsistency that I'm bugged by. When Andrea's sister died it seems like she watched over her for a while, though I don't remember how long, before she turned into a zombie. The kid in the woods tuned pretty fast, at least in the time it took Shane to get back and Glen and Daryl to find him. Shane was instant zombie, he barely took his last breath and was up lumbering silently toward Rick. At this point would it have been difficult for Carl to use his words, look out dad, behind you, move; any of these would have been better than the trick shot of a lifetime.
Well I just basically like being critical, even of stuff I enjoy. It's not like I'm writing a zombie story being published and picked up my a major network. I will say the writing in the comic is not as sloppy as on the show. Also the pacing is much faster in the beginning of the comic, it looks like this will be the end of the farm life. I for one am glad they will be moving on.
